The Autocar Great Women: Rising Stars 2023

Back in June, Stephanie Alexander, a Senior Safety Calibration Engineer at Bosch UK was named as a finalist for this year’s Autocar Great Women: Rising Stars Award. The initiative, which is sponsored by Bosch, celebrates the achievements of up-and-coming stars of the British Automotive and Engineering industries and rewards those who have the skills and expertise to rise to the top.

Out of over 2000 applicants and nominations, 124 rising stars were recognised across 11 categories across the industry: including operations, marketing and vehicle development. Stephanie was shortlisted in the vehicle development category as one of the 15 finalists. The category was one of the larger and more competitive within the program, making her achievement even more impressive.

Since joining Bosch on a Graduate program back in 2014, Stephanie has worked in many roles with various technical responsibilities. Whilst she has expressed her love for this, she noted her desire to move into a management position in the future, as she is motivated to see people successfully work towards a common goal and she wishes to help drive Bosch forward.

As long as you try your best you can go home a bit happier.

Stephanie has noted that she finds it “interesting to see how people work through different challenges” and has stressed the importance of being able to adapt to meet the needs of individuals, whether within her team or with customers. This is something she also practices in her activities outside of Bosch, which include being a race marshal and playing netball, in which she competes at county level. By taking part in these activities, she expressed how this has helped her to gain a better understanding of people, which is something she tries to take forward in her work at Bosch, which helps her to consistently perform at a high level.

As one of the finalists, Stephanie attended a prestigious awards ceremony on 28th June at Stellantis’ UK headquarters in Coventry. Here, she was able to meet many of the other finalists in a variety of categories, getting to learn about other roles in industry and hear stories outside of Bosch, which was something she found inspiring. Stephanie also emphasised how the diversity of companies, roles and people in each of the categories highlights just how far women in the automotive industry have come and has praised Autocar for utilising their high profile to increase visibility of talent in the automotive industry.
