Meet Vince: Learning to Read
For 125 years, our associates have been the driving force in building a business that is invented for life. As pioneering thinkers, doers, makers, and innovators, it is our associates that have defined our history and continue to shape our future by paying forward our legacy of innovation and social enterprise. As part of the 125 year anniversary, the team have ‘framed’ a series of brand stories that tell past, present and future stories of our associates who have been the pioneers of this progress, embracing our sustainability credentials and company culture to help bring our innovative spirit to life.
This story is about Vince Wood, a factory operator at Worcester Bosch.
When Vince came to Bosch, he struggled with reading and writing which became a challenge as he was continually met with things that he had to read. One day in a meeting, fellow associates noticed that Vince wasn’t able to read a piece of paper that he was given. He had to admit that he could not read. Vince was asked if he would like to learn to read and was offered a literacy tutor who could support him. Although he struggled at first, eventually, with the help of different coloured paper and other techniques, Vince was able to learn the skill he had always wanted.
