Pedal for charity

100 miles of endurance rewarded with sunshine

“I think I can remember every single pedal stroke I’ve made over the last fifty five years. There has been a lot of them. This year’s charity ride will be a special memory. Elite athletes / enthusiastic associates, moving at speed with only the birds punctuating the quiet hum of expensive bikes,” Pete says as he tells us about the cycling team’s achievement. After a successful cycle of 125 miles from Worcester to Denham last year, the team came together again to organise another charity cycle in 2024 to coincide with the annual summer associate event in Denham. This time, eight associates and keen cyclists from across the business took part in a 100 mile cycle from Denham to and from our Home Appliances UK headquarters in Milton Keynes. Taking part in the marathon cycle were Malcolm Kilpatrick, Martin Thomas, Pete Needell, Lesley Carroll, Paul Newell, Paul Exley, Adam Horsfield and Simon Plumbridge. A true collaborative effort of associates from our Power Tools, Rexroth, ETAS, MA and BSH divisions!

The team were supported along the way by Jamie Brassington in the Power Tools demonstration van. The route gave the riders the chance to enjoy “100 miles of scenic countryside” between the two offices. Paul Exley described the ride as giving the team a chance to go “go up a bit, down a bit, even manage to swoop for a bit.” This sentiment was echoed by the rest of the team who all enjoyed the journey. On arrival at BSH they were greeted by “lots of laughs, snacks and a warm welcome.” Then it was time to return to Denham, arriving an hour ahead of schedule as the sun came out. The riders enjoyed the rest of the day with their colleagues, celebrating their achievements at the summer garden party. Put simply by Malcolm: “Raising money for a very worthy cause and riding a bike with some new great friends – a most splendid day.”

I’m very proud of our team. What a lovely day out.

Pete Needell

The ride was in support of The Trussell Trust, who provide a nationwide network of food bank and emergency support to people facing hardship. The team raised a brilliant £520 for the cause.
