  • TransforMOTION, Mobility Solutions event, takes place on Friday 8 September 2017
  • Free public track experiences and technology demonstrations
  • STEM campaigner Carol Vorderman to feature on panel debate about Women of the Future
  • UK launch: the return of the iconic Schwalbe scooter with new electric drivetrain

A unique one day take over of the Edmond J Safra Fountain Court at Somerset House will explore the future of city living focusing on how we move around, with a series of talks, demonstrations and driving experiences on a purpose-built track, lifting the lid on how tomorrow’s technology will shape our lives.

By 2050 more than six billion people will be living in megacities, with urban traffic tripling. TransforMOTION, curated by Bosch in collaboration with Somerset House, is a free public event exploring how technology can provide the solutions needed to address these challenges. The event will consist of a series of expert debates and product demonstrations showing the real-life benefits innovative technology will have in an urban environment such as London, from stress-free and safer journeys to cleaner air.

Through a range of ride and drives, installations, talks, workshops, technology showcases and interactive opportunities, visitors will be able to experience how technology will contribute to a sustainable future and improve urban lifestyles. TransforMOTION will demystify emerging technologies and inspire the next generation of engineers to take up STEM subjects and get involved in shaping the future.

Explore driving of the future in the Bosch showcar at its first public showcase in the UK. Drive the classic Schwalbe scooter with its new electric drive train, a new lightweight electric city car and/or an eBike around the purpose-built track. Or build your own smart city with a computer simulation much like ‘The SIMS’ .

In the Embankment galleries, discover how the sciences and arts are coming together to drive further innovation with a ground-breaking technology showcase from the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Visit the ‘Makers Area’, where a series of demonstrations and workshops highlight a range of innovative new products being developed by Makerversity’s membership community based at Somerset House.

There is also an urban eBike up for grabs. Win this great prize by following the exhibition trail, answering questions on the technology and innovations along the way.

Special guests from the worlds of science, technology, arts and engineering, including STEM Ambassador Carol Vorderman, experimental architect Theo Spyropoulos, roboticist Hod Lipson and award winning producer Sara Ellis, will deliver a series of engaging and informative public lectures on everything from the ‘future city’ to ‘engineering the brain and the role of robotics in mobility’.

Arun Srinivasan, Executive Vice President and Head of Mobility Solutions Bosch UK said:

“As the urban environment changes, it is incredibly important that technology is further developed to improve quality of life for city-dwellers. TransforMOTION will showcase how innovative engineering will improve life in megacities such as London by shaping tomorrow’s urban traffic. Our vision is to see future commuters relying on multi-modal transport solutions, seamlessly combining e-bikes, shared driverless pods and light electromobility. Drivers of Ultra low and Zero emission cars will be able to park stress free with connected and automated valet parking solutions. The technology is here today, our focus is to get the next generation of engineers involved in designing solutions to the real life challenges our cities and their inhabitants face.”
