Explore Festival - Denham

A Day of STEM Exploration

A Day of STEM Exploration

On Friday 23rd June, five teams of school children, aged 6-9, were welcomed to the Bosch UK Headquarters in Denham to take part in a LEGO League Explore festival. Welcomed to the office by Jonathan Burton, Head of Legal for Bosch Northern Europe, the students took part in a spirited day of presentations and games in which they discussed their ideas for clean energy in the future.

A Day of STEM exploration

This year’s theme “SUPERPOWERED” introduces the students to the idea of energy journeys and encourages them to explore their own ideas and solutions for the future. Using Bosch-sponsored LEGO kits, the teams built models of a windmill, energy storage unit, and a carousel to map out how energy, is made, stored, and used. Then the students are asked to consider how this journey can be improved and carry out a project on their ideas.

Students came prepared with a range of ideas and models, from hover cars to pin ball games, and discussed these with Bosch associate “reviewers” who gave them feedback. At the end of the day, they were all given an award each which rewarded their individual strengths.

LEGO League Explore gives Bosch a chance to directly connect with this age group and help introduce them to STEM and inspire them at an earlier age. These students’ enthusiastic participation is just one example of what engaging with future generations can achieve. A big thank you to all the volunteers who took part in the event! Sue Shrosbree, Head of Corporate Communications at Bosch UK said:

“As part of setting a legacy during our 125 years of Bosch UK, it was so inspiring to see the ideas and models each group of children produced and I'm pleased we were able to reward the individuality of each team.

A Day of STEM exploration

We need to continue to encourage children to consider STEM subjects in their school years and think about a career in STEM - this is our future workforce and these children are the innovators of the future.
