About the award

The Bosch Technology Horizons Award is a national essay-writing competition run by Bosch in partnership with the Royal Academy of Engineering. It is open to 14 to 24 year olds and aims to generate an interest in engineering and technology. By selecting an area they are passionate about, entrants get to test their writing skills and provide their opinion on the impact engineering and technology has on their chosen subject.

As a global engineering organisation and leading manufacturer of innovative technologies, Bosch is keen to help bring about the future generation of engineers and that’s why we’ve been running the Bosch Technology Horizons Award for the past seven years.

In addition to cash prizes for the seven finalists in each category, all entrants will receive a personalised certificate that can be placed in future portfolios or ‘record of achievement’ folders – a great addition to your CV.

To take part, entrants must write either a 500-word essay (14 to 18 age group) or a 750-word essay (19 to 24 age group) answering just one of the questions below.

1) The introduction of environmental technology has changed the way we live in the last decade. Using examples, describe how it has affected human behaviour.

or

2) In 2012, London will host the Olympic Games. Describe how engineering, technology and innovative systems have helped develop the infrastructure required to host this historic event.
