Bosch has been present in the UK since 1898 when Robert Bosch opened his first overseas office in London. Just nine years later, in 1907, the Bosch Magneto Company Ltd was founded with premises just off Oxford Street in London.

Bosch UK is part of the Bosch Group, a leading global supplier of technology and services which comprises Robert Bosch GmbH and its more than 350 subsidiaries and regional companies in over 60 countries. When taking into account Bosch Group’s sales and service partners, Bosch is represented in roughly 150 countries. Each year, Bosch spends roughly €4 billion on research and development, and applies for some 3,800 patents worldwide, averaging at 15 per day.

Bosch’s UK headquarters is in Denham, Buckinghamshire, and houses the majority of Bosch’s sales and distribution activities. The following divisions are based at Denham: Automotive Original Equipment, Automotive Aftermarket, Power Tools, Security Systems, Engineering and Business Solutions and Healthcare.

UK-wide, Bosch employs around 5,000 people across 37 sites. In addition to Denham, the major sites are in Worcester (Worcester, Bosch Group), Stowmarket, Suffolk (Bosch Lawn and Garden Ltd), St. Neots, Cambridgeshire (Bosch Rexroth headquarters), Glenrothes in Scotland (Bosch Rexroth, manufacturing plant of hydraulics), Derby (Bosch Packaging Services) and Liverpool (Bosch Communication Centre, part of Bosch Security Systems). Bosch and Siemens Home Appliances Ltd (BSH Ltd), a 50/50 joint venture between Bosch and Siemens, is based in Milton Keynes.

Robert Bosch Ireland Ltd has trading divisions in Bosch Packaging Services, Bosch Security Systems, Bosch Rexroth and Worcester, Bosch Group. Origo, which is based in Dublin and is part of the Sisk group, is Bosch’s appointed distributor in Ireland for other Bosch divisions including Bosch Power Tools, Bosch Automotive Aftermarket and Bosch Home Appliances.

Ninety-two percent of the share capital of Robert Bosch GmbH is held by Robert Bosch Stiftung GmbH, a charitable foundation that supports programmes and drives initiatives in the fields of science, health, international relations, education, society and culture. The remaining shares are held by the Bosch family and by Robert Bosch GmbH. This special ownership structure of Robert Bosch GmbH guarantees the entrepreneurial freedom of the Bosch Group, making it possible for the company to plan over the long term and to undertake significant up-front investments in the safeguarding of its future.
