Bosch opens first ABS production in Brazil
- Production to cover local demand
The Bosch Group has become the first automotive supplier to commence production of antilock braking systems (ABS) in Brazil. The company has invested some 10 million euros installing an ABS production line at its plant in Campinas near Sao Paulo. The decision to invest was based upon the increasing number of vehicles now produced in Brazil that are being equipped with ABS - between 2002 and 2006, the number of newly registered vehicles fitted with ABS almost doubled from 7 per cent to 13 per cent.
Bosch is the market leader for the supply of antilock braking systems in Latin America. Up to this point these systems have been imported from Bosch plants elsewhere in the world. However, Bosch engineers have been working progressively to adapt ABS to the vehicles being produced in Brazilian vehicle manufacturing plants.
Bosch has had a presence in Brazil since 1954 and now manufactures automotive technology products, automation technology, power tools, household appliances and packaging technology in the country. The group employs approximately 13,700 people in its Brazilian subsidiaries and affiliated companies, generating sales of 1.1 billion euros in 2006.
