The Bosch Group will begin manufacturing antilock braking systems (ABS) in Brazil in 2007. For this purpose, an investment of €10 million will be made in the Campina plant, near São Paulo. In Latin America, Bosch is the market leader for antilock braking systems which, until now, have been imported. The decision to invest has been prompted by the increasing number of passenger cars equipped with ABS in Brazil.
Bosch has been present in Brazil since 1954, and manufactures automotive technology, automation technology, power tools, household appliances, and packaging technology there. Ever since the 1980's, a team of Bosch engineers has been working to adapt ABS to vehicles manufactured in Brazil. In its Brazilian subsidiaries and affiliated companies, the Bosch Group employs some 14,000 associates, and generated sales of approximately €1 billion in the Brazilian market during 2005.
