In addition to using Bosch components, Knorr Bremse will have access to Bosch’s technical expertise to aid the development, manufacture and marketing of the Bosch predictive safety system. Bosch continues to develop this technology for a number of further functions in passenger vehicles which will be launched in the future.
Commenting on the alliance, President of the Bosch Automotive Electronics Division, Rainer Kallenbach said “This alliance allows us to transfer our strong position and the know-how we have accumulated in driver assistance systems for passenger vehicles to the commercial vehicle sector.” Walter Sauter, member of the Board of Management of Knorr Bremse added “Driver assistance systems are going to be of increasing importance in commercial vehicles and will be an integral part of the commercial vehicle brake business in the future.”
ACC and PSS – assistance, convenience and safety for truck, bus, and car drivers
Systems such as ACC and PSS are essential for helping the driver to cope with ever increasing traffic density and, in this way, for enhancing road safety – in trucks, buses, and passenger cars. The ACC Adaptive Cruise Control system by Bosch identifies vehicles on the road ahead, computes their speed, and maintains a speed-related safety distance through automatic brake and engine management. The Predictive Safety System PSS is based on ACC and assists drivers in emergency braking.
