The Blaupunkt Division of Bosch is a market leader in car multimedia with products ranging from in-car entertainment to sound to advanced in-car navigation. It all started in 1923 in Berlin. The company was originally called the Ideal Radio Company and manufactured headphones. As the headphones passed through quality control, they were marked with a 'blue spot.' In time the products became known by their blue spot and customers associated them with good quality. Blaupunkt - with the distinctive blue spot - was established as a trade mark in the following year. The first car radio was produced in 1932 and ten years later the Ideal Radio Company became incorporated into the Bosch Group. Since then Blaupunkt has led the way in car multimedia, continuously developing new products such as the first FM radio in 1952 and the world's first stereo car radio in 1969. More recent innovations include the world's first DAB radio with MP3 player in 2001, the world's first DAB car radio with MP3 player that records.
